Biography

In a soft warm spring night of 1969 SheDj Cat, at this time still known as Michelle, said «hello» to this material world. Humming and playing in her cradle music became already a part of her life. Her father, a passion full musician and later on tour manager, filled the house with sound and songs. Without knowing that «Let it be» was a song of superstars, or that Aretha Franklin, Simon & Garfunkle, Pink Floyd, Elvis and Mozart ever made any music, the little baby filled herself with all these sounds and rhythms.

A bit later Afro/American influences started to add to her music history. The house where SheDj Cat grew up became from time to time a cultural meeting place. Well known musicians, specially form the jazz scene (a lot of ECM musicians) met in «Les Douzilles» for concerts and sessions, beside workshops for African dance and music.
The now 5 year old, very curious girl did not miss an opportunity to be a part of the action, there was always something around for drumming...

For a few years more it was possible for her to look over the shoulders or sit on the knees of musicians of various styles and to have a close look at different concerts and festivals. She also could smell the perfume of the music business.
That's how a solid ground grew slowly for her actual work behind the desks.

There had to be a wild part in SheDj Cat's life. So in the early 80's the teenager started to hang around in disco's, but was first more interested in dancing and the boys then in the music. That's how she started to be part of a few disco queen contests and made it twice to the Swiss finals. But it looked like this was not fulfilling her heart....

SheDj Cat started again to look more and more into music. The place behind the wheels of steel became the main interest. As her record and cassette collection was already quite important, she started to add on more.
The first maxi singles came in. At that time the choice was influenced by actual Dj's (italo disco, new wave, funk and pop) and of course also by all the other styles SheDj Cat was listening to (rock, soul, classic and a lot more).
It was time to start mixing as not always all songs of a record or maxi were useful. So some first cassettes were produced with very simple technical material.

The experiences with the club and party scene started for SheDj Cat at the end of the 80's. After a holiday on Ibiza and the first acid parties in Switzerland she definitively got the virus.
The music played around that time touched right down to her roots. There were the electronic sounds of the late 80's with soft acoustic sounds, driving rhythms and percussion and added voices. This intensified her search for special tracks and her record collection grew again.

With the number of tracks her passion for mixing grew tremendously. In 1995 her financial budget allowed finally a professional equipment. The real work started with 2 Technics and a nice mixing table.
A good friend helped her with some advises and tricks and arranged her first gig. From then on she learned the rest by herself and developed her own style.

SheDj Cat was lucky. Quite a few times she was at the right place in the right moment. After some gigs in bars and small places around her hometown, Berne, she got some bookings in a well known club in Biel/Bienne.
These show up's beside some international known Dj's gave a push to a successful future as a Djane. A good number of gigs followed all over Switzerland and SheDj Cat's carrier was started growing...
